Virginia Paving Company was awarded the 2018 Best Municipal Paving Project by the Virginia Asphalt Association, for the resurfacing of Virginia Beach Blvd. Projects completed during the 2018 calendar year were eligible for submission. Each project was visited by a member of the association, then voted on during the summer of 2019. Awards were presented to contractors at VAA’s annual asphalt conference in Richmond, VA.
Virginia Beach Blvd. was a perfect candidate to submit due to its demanding nighttime only work hours and high exposure to the traveling public. The two inch mill, pave, and restripe of the 1.7-mile stretch was part of Virginia Paving Company’s annual resurfacing contract with the City of Virginia Beach. Nearly 210,000 square yards were milled and over 23,000 tons of surface asphalt was placed in just 38 days, with no accidents or rework; a true testament to Virginia Paving’s commitment to safety and quality.
